Rediscovering the old and discovering the new.

Being a stay at home mum has allowed me to discover many things both old and new.

Here is a list of things I have discovered, or rediscovered in some cases.

1. My love of reading... I always have enjoyed reading but when you are busy working, sometimes reading would be the last thing on my mind. With the help of the Amazon Kindle that my lovely husband bought me for my birthday, I find myself sitting and reading while the girls are sleeping.

2. How good a cup of tea really is! I never used to drink a lot of tea, but when your day is going pear shaped, sometimes a cup of tea is all it takes to get it back on track again.

3. Everyone has a little bit of Martha Stewart in them! I am currently am making a quilt and have become a little baker. I love the smell of home made cookies, cake or a delicious dinner.

This post will be updated as often as I find new things to discover!

The Dreaded Winter...

With the girls being Born in May, the Winter of 2009 seemed to pass with little fuss. A few runny noses but certainly a blessing first Winter. This year, is a whole different story! It seems that the Winter of 2010 is to be that dreaded Winter where the girls are constantly sick. Cough, Cough, Cough has become the soundtrack in our house of late, both night and day! I am certainly looking forward to the end of Winter, no more runny noses, coughing and sneezing (One can only hope anyway!)

The other challenges that come along with Winter are those of trying to keep the girls warm enough, especially at night so they do not wake. I laugh because I wonder what is going to become of these girls. Are they going to feel the cold, love or hate the cold? I remember the advice I received.. 'dress the girls in one layer more than yourself'. Well somedays they tend to have the same number of layers that I have and don't seem to mind. I wonder often whether they are warm enough... they certainly can't tell me yet!

I look forward to the end of Winter, only a month to go (or thereabouts!) Bring on the cool mornings and warm Spring days!

A Year already!

There are only 5 more days until the girls turn 1. I can't believe that it has been a year already.

I have watched them grow and change and it is amazing.

Babies one day....

little girls the next.

People often tell you that time goes quickly and you just nod politely and agree, but secretly you are thinking that it is always going to be different for me.... but in reality, it is not. You feel yourself coming out of that dark, dark could which seems to hang around for anywhere between 3 to 6 months and begin to really enjoy this special time but then along comes the first birthday!

I am looking forward to celebrating this milestone with my girls and can't wait to see where this loving journey takes me next!

Mother's Day

I cannot believe that it is almost Mother's Day! This will be my first ever Mother's day. I am looking forward to it! I am hoping for many things.

I am even more so excited, because I get to spend Mother's day with my mum since we are having a holiday at her house in Brisbane! We have made some plans! We're going to take all the kids to Rocks Riverside Park and have a splash around in the water and a nice picnic! I think it will be a great day!

The other discussion we have had is about traditions to start? I was thinking some diamonds, a new camera, oh how about a new car! (Yes I am dreaming I know!) So I think we are opting the slippers and Pyjama's tradition! I am secretly hoping for a new camera though!

My gorgeous nephew's had a Mother's Day stall at school today and they took extra money with them to buy something for me from the girls! They are too cute!

Little Spaces!

It is amazing how you take so many things for granted pre-baby! The ability to go out with 5 minutes notice, packing your bag the afternoon you plan on going away, how many clothes you can take with you on your holiday and even peace and quiet!

We are about to take our first big family holiday this month! We are off to see my family in Brisbane and thought it might be a nice idea to drive up. I may rethink this after the drive, never the less, the car is packed.... to the brim, I do not think I could squeeze even the smallest pea into the boot; Girls are having a sleep (thank goodness for peace and quiet!); House is clean... I guess I am ready to go, just waiting for Shane to finish work and we'll be off. Our first stop is Spring Farm to see Andy and Neri and rest our heads for the long trek to Brisbane.

Usually when packing for a trip, pre-baby, involves laying out clothes the night before, putting them in the bag, packing the toiletries and car in the morning and setting off! How things have changed! We started laying out clothes and packing and planning what to pack on Monday! That is 4 days thinking about and packing for 4 of us! Why did noone ever tell me it was that bad!

I have packed for them toys, clothes, nappies, wipes, food, drink, drink bottles, spoons, swimmers, swimmer nappies, hats, pyjamas, shoes, socks, creams... have I forgotten anything? Gee I hope not! Usually I forget things for myself rather than the girls things!

I am thinking while taking the long trek we can discover some excellent travel tips to share.

My first travel tip for kids/babies(someone told me this or I read it somewhere, but it is a goodie!) :
'Take the sheets from the babies cot so they have a scent they are familiar with when sleeping in a different place!'

Life Changes

So, I knew life was going to change when I found out I was pregnant. Then, when I found out it was twins, I knew life would never be the same again! And boy was I right.

A quick history... we found out we were pregnant while on holidays in October 2008, we discovered it was twins at our 12 week ultrasound in December 2009 and the girls Olivia and Ava were born on the 25th May 2009.

In the beginning I tried to keep a routine as best I could and the girls were fantastic... fast track 11 months and my routine is being thrown a curve ball again now they decide that they don't want to sleep in the morning anymore... whatever am I going to do with them or more to the point when does my time come back?

We are in the process of packing for a driving holiday to see my family in Brisbane, Queensland. Here is yet another curve ball... packing, driving for a few hours a day, new environment, new people, different weather, different house... I wonder what the next curve ball will be.

I guess the point of my blogging today is that you never know what life is going to throw at you, and the only way to get through it is to run with the curve balls it throws at you instead of letting them knock you down.
